Submission Guidelines 2022 – V37:
Verandah is an art and literary journal now in its 37th year of publication. Our aim is to give a voice to emerging artists and writers. This year’s publication is founded around the theme of “Transitions”.
Are we physically moving, between land and sea? Earth, air and stars? Or are we watching an important moment, the change between power and authority, from one hand into another? We are often so caught up in life – meeting goals and reaching destinations or thinking about where we are now and who we want to be –that we don’t look at the changes happening in the moment. But what about the bits in the middle, the growing pains and grey space in between? What about those moments that define and refine us, that make up the mosaic of our ever-changing lives? What is it about these in-between moments that are vulnerable to us, that draw our attention and hold our focus?
We invite you to respond to this theme, but it is non-binding and is more of an idea that will bring the whole publication together, rather than a thematic requirement on individual pieces.
This journal will only accept previously unpublished work. Works that have been created as part of university assignments will be accepted.
Submissions will close on the 5th of June 2022.
