Submission Guidelines
Material submitted should be your own work. Submitted works should not appear in any other publications. If your work has been accepted elsewhere, please let us know so that the piece can be removed from consideration.
Authors shall not use generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to produce or assist in the creation of any content intended for submission to the Verandah editions. Work submitted should be the result of the author’s own work and creativity. Contributors must disclose to the publisher if any AI-generated media is included in the submitted manuscript or art.
While we aren’t able to pay contributors, we will be offering a minimum of three awards- and we’ve got a line up of juicy prizes coming your way soon. We’ll be announcing them over the next few weeks, so stay tuned and like and follow us on our socials to be the first to know what’s happening!!
Types Of Form Accepted For Submissions:
- Fiction and Nonfiction short stories/creative essays: Maximum of 2,500 words
- Poetry: No more than 100 lines
- Graphic Narrative, Artwork and Photography: A one full page. All submissions should be .PDF or .jpg, with a resolution of 300dpi minimal
All genres and styles of art are welcomed and encouraged!
General Formatting Requirements:
- 12-point font size
- Double spacing (exceptions for stylised poetry formatting)
- Numbered pages (top right corner header)
- Our house style is Australian standard: singular quotations and Australian spelling
- Include a header with the title of your work
- Your name should not appear anywhere on your work
- Submit written work as a .docx file
- Graphic Narrative, Artwork and Photography should be .PDF or .jpg
- Each submission should be its own unique document
Processes and Fees
External Submitters (Non-Deakin University students or staff) are required to pay a submission fee: here
- $5 AUD for 1 submission
- $9 AUD for 2 submissions
- $12 AUD for 3 submissions
