Written entries must not exceed 2,500 words
Poetry must not exceed 100 lines
Entries must be a complete work. Excerpts or chapters from a longer work will not be considered.
Prose and poetry entries must be submitted in a Word Doc format and typeset in Times New Roman at 12 pt size. (Artistic license is allowed for poetry and works that intentionally subvert formatting conventions)
Graphic narratives must not exceed two A4 pages. These submissions must be submitted in PDF format.
Artwork and photography must not exceed one A4 page. These submissions must be submitted in PDF, JPEG or PNG formats.
Eligible works must speak to the theme of REVIVAL. All styles and genres are welcome, and we encourage you to respond to the theme in a manner that is entirely unique to you!
All works must be previously unpublished (this includes blogs, zines, newsletters, anthologies and subscription platforms like Substack or Patreon).
Your name must not appear anywhere in your work.
All entries must be predominantly in English.
Up to a maximum of 3 submissions are permitted per entrant. Submission fees are listed below.

Eligibility Criteria

Submissions are welcomed from those in all stages of their creative journey. New, emerging and established artists are all encouraged to submit.
Although we are a Melbourne-based journal, we accept submissions from those located all around the world.
Submissions from Deakin University students and staff do not incur a fee. Those from Deakin University must use their Deakin email when completing the submission form to ensure this process.
Your name must not appear anywhere in your work. However, artistic license is granted to entrants using their first name in the context of memoir, narrative non-fiction or memoir-style artwork. Your full name must be included in the submission Google Form.
By submitting to Verandah 41, you confirm that your submission makes no use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in its preparation and that no content generated by AI is included in the submission.

All non-Deakin University submitters are required to pay a submission fee:

Deakin University students and staff do not have to pay a submission fee. Please use your Deakin email when submitting.

We will only accept a maximum of 3 submissions from each individual. Submissions can be a mixture of prose, poetry and art, or 3 of the same.
